The printer companies' dirty little secret...

Epson, Canon and others practically give away their printers because they make money on the ink cartridges. These little plastic containers filled with 50 cents of ink sell for $20 to $40. In an effort to keep the stranglehold on this windfall, they imply that there is some secret to these ink cartridges other companies don't know and using another brand will ruin your printer. They top it off by claiming the warranty is voided if other brands of ink cartridges are used. However, under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975, it would be illegal for them to void your warranty. Among other things, the acts states:

Warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty. In other words, they can not insist that you use only their cartridges.

For over ten years we have been using and selling compatible Epson ink cartridges, including Refillable Epson Cartridges and Reusable Epson Ink Cartridges. They work just as well as the name brand and last even longer since they are more generous with the amount of ink they give you. Should your printer need replacement under the warranty, Epson ships an immediate replacement and tells you to use the box it came in to ship your printer back without the ink cartridges. So even if you are using compatible ink cartridges it can not affect your warranty. However, refilling genuine Epson cartridges can damage your printer.

One of my customers had to take her Canon printer to an authorized service center. To her surprise, they replaced her empty Canon ink cartridges with a clone brand! When she questioned this, the tech said, "They all work the same." If it's good enough for the authorized Canon repair center, it's good enough for you!

I have had folks tell me, "I won't use some ink cartridge made in China." Guess what? Genuine OEM ink cartridges are also made in China.

So don't worry about their scare tactics. Save over 90% by using our compatible Epson ink cartridges, particularly our reusable Epson ink cartridges and refillable Epson ink cartridges. Our ink cartridges are all guaranteed. Click here for warranty details

Here's an excerpt from a Computer Shopper article on compatible ink cartridges:

Although companies can't legally void your warranty simply for using third-party toner or ink, most manufacturers warn that print quality and printer reliability may suffer, and most reserve the right not to cover the cost of repairing a printer damaged through the use of third-party ink cartridges. Printer manufacturers may exaggerate the risks of using such ink cartridges, but at least in some cases, their concerns seem justified. That said, plenty of people have long used third-party toners and inks without any problems.

Flat shipping regardless of the size of the order. We ship USPS first class or priority to all U.S. territories (including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, APO, FPO) and we ship to Canada.

These are NOT refilled cartridges which we do not recommend. These are BRAND NEW compatible cartridges (or brand new ink tanks in the case of our 2-piece cartridges) or in the case of HP, factory remanufactured, which means they were disassembled, cleaned, refilled and tested. Our cartridges are guaranteed.

Refilling Epson Ink Cartridges - Not A Good Option

Epson cartridges are deliberately designed not to be refilled. They contain a chip which counts how many pages were printed. When the printer thinks the cartridge is empty, it sets the chip to empty. Simply putting more ink in the cartridge will not solve this.

The chip also has to be reprogrammed to a full state. Newer chips are deliberately designed not to allow reprogramming, therefore this procedure often fails. I have seen numerous complaints on the net of people who bought refilled cartridges only to have the printer report that they were empty immediately upon insertion.

Instead of refilling Epson cartridges, use our Refillable Epson Ink Cartridges or Reusable Epson Ink Cartridges. They are cheaper and hold three times the ink. See our large list of refillable Epson cartridges above.

Important note about the Epson ruling and what it means:

In 2007 Epson won a ruling allowing it to produce printers which refuse to work with compatible cartridges. This gives Epson a near-monopoly on ink for these printers. As a result, Epson printers manufactured on or after March 2007 may not work with many of the compatible cartridges advertised on other sites. They WILL work with our cartridges. Printers manufactured before March 2007 are not affected. For example, T069 cartridges fit the CX5000, CX6000, CX7000F, CX7400, CX7450, CX8400, CX9400Fax, C120, NX series and Workforce series. However, many compatible cartridges will not work with the later printers (C120, NX and Workforce). The reason is because the chips on the later printers were designed to reject compatible cartridges unless they are truly compatible (as ours are). The same holds true for the T078, T098, T125, T126 and T127. Compatible ink manufacturers have to re-design their chips to work with the new printers, even though the cartridges are the same size and shape as before. Some cartridge sites are vague on this, either deliberately or through ignorance. They will advertise their T069 or other cartridges and then state "T069 cartridges work with the following printers:" and list all the printers without mentioning that their cartridges won't work with the later models.

A number of manufacturers have stopped making Epson compatible cartridges completely or stopped shipping them to the United States. Customs has been blocking shipments of some Epson compatible cartridges for patent infringement. We are already seeing higher prices on both genuine Epson cartridges and Epson compatible cartridges. Many sites which sold Epson compatible cartridges have been out of stock for months.

Despite our rising costs on three fronts: the increased cost of Epson compatible cartridges, higher shipping costs to us, and higher postal rates to ship them to you, our prices have even gone down!

How did we achieve this? By buying in ever larger quantity. Not only did we get a discount on the per-cartridge price, bringing it down to the same price we used to pay before, the per-cartridge shipping cost is lower. It's cheaper to ship 500 cartridges at a time than to ship 5 boxes of 100 cartridges separately. But naturally it means we also have to sell more cartridges to maintain that level. We'd prefer to sell 100 cartridges at a time and make 25 cents each rather than sell 10 cartridges at a time, even if we make a dollar each. Keeping our costs down is all about volume, so please ask about volume discounts and reseller discounts. We supply schools and companies.

Because Epson keeps changing their printers to foil the Epson compatible cartridge manufacturers, the chips for these cartridges have to keep changing as well. This has caused a problem for manufacturers. As fast as they make their Epson compatible cartridges work, Epson changes the chip. That is why so many of our customers reported that they bought cartridges from other sites or on ebay which didn't work. Our manufacturer of reusable and refillable Epson compatible cartridges has completely redesigned the cartridge and chip. The chip now automatically resets to full and the ink tank can be replaced separately from the shell containing the chip. This means you are re-using the chip which has already been recognized by your printer.

Our advice to consumers is:

1) Make sure the Epson compatible ink cartridges you buy will work. Just because they are the same Epson part number as another model is no guarantee. We have come across many T069 cartridges which don't work with the C120, Workforce and NX. T098 cartridges may not work with Artisan 730 and 837. However, we have Epson compatible cartrides which DO work with these printers, so you can order here with full confidence and a full guarantee. If you find them elsewhere, make sure you are ordering the correct ones. Also, make sure they are NOT refilled or remanufactured, which can damage your printer.

2) Sealed ink cartridges have a shelf life of at least two years (and we have used cartriges as much as 4 years past the expiration date without problem). If you find a good deal on cartridges, buy several. You may not be able to find them later. You will also get discount pricing and cheaper shipping.
